I Keep Bumping Into Desks

smaller aisles

I keep bumping into desks. When I think I can fit through the aisle, I realize I was wrong. I keep having the awkward experience of my body accidentally brushing a student. Unfortunately, I have the sneaking suspicion that the aisles aren’t getting smaller.

Just Give Up

extra help

At some point, students should accept that they are going to fail.

Don’t you hate it when they won’t give up? Just accept that you have a seven percent.

No amount of extra help or extra credit is going to help two weeks before the end of the semester.

Epic Fail

epic fail

Several of my advisory students received progress reports like this. What are they thinking? A “D” requires so little effort, you almost have to exert extra effort to avoid the work required to receive an “F.”

Attitude Matters

cant do this

I try not to get upset when students do not fulfill their potential. I try not to take it personally when they make poor decisions. But not many things irk me more than a student who is perfectly capable of doing an assignment who gives up and does not even try. My own children are not allowed to say “can’t.” Really, they get punished for saying those words. Attitude matters.
